Decorating the Christmas tree is such a joyous thing to do, honestly. I’m sure everyone has there own traditions or ways of how and when they decorate, but putting it all together sure does spark some magic within you.
Shaun and I put the tree up together and it’s something I typically find myself looking forward to when the time comes. We put on Christmas music, get the hot chocolate going, and get right to it. But what I love the most about the process is looking at all the ornaments we’ve collected over the years that bring back such beautiful memories. Some are more sentimental than others, but they all share some kind of story.
Here are some of the special ones we have on our tree and what they mean to us.
The 1st Year Married One
First, we have this special one that I bought for us last year when we got married. The simplicity and gold touches are my absolute favourite. It’s a classic little piece that will match anything on the tree and I love looking at it and remembering our special day. We bought this one from small shop, Amoda Chic.
The Spider-Man One
Then we go from a classic piece to a Spider-Man one, lol. Shaun is a Spider-Man fan so it’s pretty necessary for this guy to be on our tree. I actually bought this for him before we ever had our condo and kept it for him until our first Christmas in here. Now he just hangs out at the bottom every year.
The Honeymoon One
This little apple is from our honeymoon when we went to New York City. I won’t get into the memory of how we bought it because it’s long but reflecting on that memory when we put it up this year brought some pretty good laughs. A beautiful reminder of when we were on top of the world, newly married.
The Simpson’s One
And again, from a special little apple we go to a Simpson’s one. When we moved out of our parents’ houses, Shaun’s mom gave him all of the Simpson’s ornaments that were his but there was no way I was letting him put up 10 different ornaments of Bart and Homer on our tree. So every year I tell him he can pick ONE, lol. It’s become a thing and I kind of like how we settled on that. This year, Marg and Homer made it on.
The 1st Home One
This one is from our first Christmas in our condo and we bought this very fitting ornament from the gift shop of the farm we chopped our tree from. I absolutely love it because it always reminds me of the perfect, snowy day we had for cutting down our first tree. It’ll be extra special whenever we move, too.
The Sentimental Ones
We have a little section on our tree that has ornaments for a few of our grandparents who have passed. It’s by the window to ensure the light is always touching them. They are a beautiful reminder that our grandparents are still here with us.
The Parker One
My mother-in-law bought this one for Parker and every year we show it to him and let him sniff it out. We ask him where he wants it to go and then he usually closes his eyes after, lol. It’s important to us that he has something on there for him, too.
The Movie One
Finding Nemo was the first movie Shaun and I ever watched together. Why Finding Nemo, I have no idea, lol. It is something that we’ve always remembered so having Nemo part of our tree seemed super fitting. It brings us back to those first memories we made that we didn’t even know we were making.
The Hockey One
Our house is a hockey house, through and through. Shaun is also a goalie so when I found this one, I mean, how perfect was it to add to our tree? We’re also super big on watching the World Juniors hockey tournament every year so it’s just perfect beyond means.
What are your favourite ornaments on your tree and do they have special memories attached to them?
